Linksys WiFi Extender Setup

Linksys range extenders expand the existing home wifi and eliminate dead zones from the home. The Linksys extender needs to setup with the router prior to using it. Linksys extender setup doesn't take much time and handy as well. Let's have a look at extender setup ways.

• Connect the extender with the laptop using an Ethernet cable.
• If a cell phone is being used in place of a laptop or computer then connect the cell phone to the wireless network of the extender.
• By default, the wireless network name is "Linksys Extender Setup". if it doesn't appear in the wifi list reset the extender and try again.
• Now open a browser on a cell phone or laptop and surf the extender setup website extender.linksys.com.
• This will prompt the extender setup page, select the mode of setup as "Wireless Range Extender" and click on next.

How to Setup Linksys Extender: Access Point

The Linksys Extender Setup RE6400 can be setup as an access point also. If you wish to setup the extender using the Ethernet cable in place of wifi then the extender needs to be setup as an access point. Here are the steps to setup Linksys extender as an access point.

• Turn on the extender and connect with the computer, cellphone, or laptop as we discussed above.
•Now open the extender default IP or the setup website to access the extender setup page.
• Select the terms and conditions.
• Now select the setup mode as an Access Point. (Ensures the extender is connected to the router by this step)
• Next, the extender will read the incoming internet coming from the router and asks to set the wifi name and password for it.
• Set the wifi name and password to access the extender wifi.
• At last, set the admin password to access the extender login page.

On successful setup, the extender wifi name by default comes as router name and it suffixes _Ext. Once setup, the extender can be moved to another location as well as long as it remains in the wifi coverage of the home wifi, and in case of access point setup the Ethernet cable should always remain plugged in between the extender and the router.

To access the extender page first find its IP address assigned by the router. Login into the router page and look for the connected devices. Find the extender name in the list of connected devices and its IP assigned to it.

Use that IP to open the Linksys Extender Setup page and access the different settings and features of the extender. Hope this helped you in setting up the extender but if still anything is unanswered talk to our experts. Our professionals team is just a call away.
