The most overlooked SEO ranking factor is user experience.

SEO experts often talk about page speed and mobile device optimization. But good user experience is not always about modifying code or having 1-2% gains.

Good user experience is not even about having a site that looks good. Amazon and Google are not pretty.

Good user experience is about helping the user get from point A to point B.

That could be anything from ensuring your website is easy to navigate to providing customer support that is easy to reach.

The little things often make the most significant difference: a title that is easy to read, a button that is easy to click, a checkbox that is easy to check, a text that is easy to read, etc.

The bottom line is that if your website is challenging to use, people will leave and won’t return.

And if people are leaving your website, that will impact your SEO.

Knowing what information to hide is just as important as knowing what information to show when trying to help your users make a decision. Please don’t underestimate your users; make the information easy to search but don’t spoon-feed them everything.

Google knows when users are not converting - and it also knows when people are recommending your website. If it is hard to use, that recommendation will probably happen farther in between.

So, my final advice is to try to think like your users:

  • What are they looking for?
  • How are they looking for it?
  • How can we make it easy for them to find?
  • How can we remove obstacles?

Sometimes the solution is to rewrite a few texts. Other times, we need to redesign the website.

But the starting point is always the same: think about your users and their needs.
