I can think of a lot of books... The Red is a trilogy by Linda Nagata, which I think is particularly interesting because it's very near-future. It's full of drones and AIs and smart weapons, but it's like what would happen if you took Starship Troopers and set it only a few years from now, on Earth, and with near-contemporary technology.
