Negative thoughts are very valuable -- you should not try to stop them.

Classify the negative thoughts into three categories.

  1. Things you cannot prepare for -- ignore these.
  2. Things you can prepare for -- prepare a plan, and having prepared, rest assured.
  3. Things you can deal with now -- deal with them, and having done so, rest assured.

The key is to ground negative thoughts in reality.

Do you think your hair looks stupid?

Maybe it does look stupid -- ask some disinterested person.

It's ungrounded negative thoughts that cause useless anxiety.
