FEATool Multiphysics 1.17 - Multi-simulation FEA and OpenFOAM CFD Toolbox

Precise Simulation, developer of state-of-the-art FEA and CAE engineering simulation software, is proud to announce significant updates in the latest iteration of the FEATool Multiphysics toolbox 1.17. Improvements focus on expanding physics and simulation capabilities, optimizing simulation performance for various industrial applications, including automotive, energy, aerospace, and process engineering, and continuing to make the software class-leading in its ease-of-use.

The update includes a new physics mode to support compressible and supersonic high Mach number turbulent flows, with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the OpenFOAM Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solver. This addition enables users to model more complex fluid dynamics models involving high-speed airflow with viscous layers and shock waves, such as in aerodynamic, rocket, and space applications.

New and updated features also include:

  • New OpenFOAM MATLAB API, allowing users to import, export and run CFD simulations programmtically via m-file scripts. Support also includes importing external OpenFOAM dictionaries and data files with seamless transfer between other FOAM applications.

  • Coupled flow and conjugate heat transfer capabilities that enable users to model temperature changes during fluid simulations, with applications in automotive, chemical, and processing industries.

  • Models with multiple regions are now automatically handled, and support both flow and/or heat transfer effects with varying fluid and material properties.

  • Built-in support for more OpenFOAM solvers such as chtMultiRegionFoam, buoyantBoussinesqFoam, rhoCentralFoam, and sonicFoam.

  • To complement these new features, new example models and tutorials have also been made available. These examples serve as valuable resources for users to learn modeling and simulation with FEATool.

For those working with the SU2 Code CFD solver instead of OpenFOAM, version 1.17 also extends its capabilities to include turbulent compressible and high Mach number flows, further solidifying the position of FEATool as a versatile simulation tool for a diverse range of fluid dynamics applications.

Benefits for Engineers and Researchers:

  • Accurate and Efficient Simulations: FEATool 1.17 delivers highly accurate and efficient simulations, enabling engineers to optimize designs, reduce development time, and improve product performance.

  • Expanded Application Areas: The new features and enhancements broaden the range of applications for FEATool, making it suitable for a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, energy, and process engineering.

  • Increased Productivity: The improved user interface (GUI) and streamlined scriptable programmable workflows (CLI) enhance productivity and allow engineers to focus on their simulations rather than technical complexities.
