KWSP Akaun Fleksibel: How to Withdraw from EPF Account 3 (2026 Guide)
Since May 2024, Malaysian EPF (KWSP) members have three accounts instead of two. The newest — Akaun Fleksibel (Akaun 3 / Akaun Ketiga) — can be withdrawn anytime, for any reason, with no documents required.
Here's everything you need to know.
What Is Akaun Fleksibel?
Every EPF contribution you make is split across three accounts:
| Account | Allocation | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Akaun Persaraan | 75% | Locked until age 55 |
| Akaun Sejahtera | 15% | Purpose-restricted (housing, education, health, Hajj) |
| Akaun Fleksibel | 10% | Withdraw anytime, any reason |
Important: Akaun Fleksibel started at RM0 for everyone in May 2024. If you've been working for years, most of your EPF balance is in the other two accounts. Check your i-Akaun balance before assuming there's a large amount available.
Withdrawal Rules at a Glance
- Minimum per withdrawal: RM 50
- Maximum: Full Akaun Fleksibel balance
- Frequency: Once per calendar month
- Processing time: 1–3 business days
- Documents required: None
- Tax: 0% (EPF withdrawals are fully tax-exempt)
How to Withdraw (i-Akaun App — Recommended)
The entire process takes about 3 minutes.
Step 1: Open the i-Akaun app and log in
Use your MyKad (IC) number and your i-Akaun password. If you've forgotten it, tap "Forgot Password" and reset via OTP.
Step 2: Go to "Withdrawals" (Pengeluaran)
From the home screen, tap Withdrawals → select "Akaun Fleksibel Withdrawal" (Pengeluaran Akaun Fleksibel).
Step 3: Confirm your registered bank account
EPF pays out to your registered bank account only. If it's outdated, stop here and update it first.
Step 4: Enter the withdrawal amount
Any amount between RM 50 and your full balance. Partial withdrawals are fine.
Step 5: Review and confirm
Double-check the bank account number — EPF cannot reverse payments sent to the wrong account.
Step 6: Verify with OTP
Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Step 7: Done
Money arrives in your bank account within 1–3 business days. Most before-3pm submissions are credited the next business day.
Update Your Bank Account First
EPF can only pay to a Malaysian bank account in your own name. To update:
- i-Akaun app: Profile → Bank Account → Update
- EPF counter: Bring MyKad + bank statement
- Joint accounts: NOT accepted. Sole accounts only.
- Supported banks: All major Malaysian banks (Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Hong Leong, Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, Affin, AmBank, BSN, and more)
The Real Cost of Withdrawing Early
EPF consistently pays dividends of 5–6% per year, compounded. Every ringgit you withdraw loses that growth forever.
Example: Withdrawing RM 2,000 today
- Assumed EPF dividend: 6%/year
- Years to retirement: 25 years
- What RM 2,000 grows to: ≈ RM 8,584
- True cost of withdrawal: ≈ RM 6,584 in retirement savings lost
EPF's own estimate: withdrawing RM 2,000 today costs over RM 11,000 in retirement savings over 30 years.
Best practice: Treat Akaun Fleksibel as a true emergency fund — 3 months of expenses — and only touch it for genuine emergencies.
FAQ
Can I withdraw more than once per month?
No. One withdrawal per calendar month, per member. No exceptions.
Is the withdrawal taxable?
No. EPF withdrawals are completely tax-exempt. You don't need to declare them on your tax return.
My Akaun Fleksibel balance is RM0. Why?
Akaun Fleksibel only started receiving contributions from 11 May 2024. If you weren't making EPF contributions after that date, the balance is RM0.
What if my i-Akaun is locked?
Visit any EPF branch (Ibu Pejabat KWSP or branch offices) with your MyKad. Staff can unlock your account and assist with same-day withdrawal applications.
Does Akaun Fleksibel earn dividends?
Yes — the same annual dividend as your other EPF accounts (typically 5–6%/year). This is why leaving it alone to compound is smarter than withdrawing every month.
Pro Tips
Build it as an emergency fund, then leave it — Let it accumulate for 1–2 years until it covers 3 months of expenses. Then only touch it in real emergencies.
Don't withdraw small amounts frequently — The one-per-month limit means every withdrawal is your only shot that month. One RM 1,200 withdrawal beats 12 × RM 100 withdrawals (less compounding lost).
Keep your bank account and mobile number updated — Don't discover your registration is outdated during an emergency.
Check your balance before assuming it's large — For someone earning RM 5,000/month, expect roughly RM 3,000–4,000 in Akaun Fleksibel after 1.5 years.
