I could use some help on same issue. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from USB flash on iMac mid-2007 with success, but when I go to boot, I can't select it as Startup disk. I used disk Utility, mount and see the partition and contents which look the same as that installed on windows based machine. Looks like there's a missing link to a utility of sorts that specifies the "boot" disk, like rEFInd (rodsbooks.com/refind/). But I would love some advice before I try it so I don't trash my disk!
