Light hygiene is the practice of managing your light exposure to support your natural circadian rhythms. For developers, who spend most of their time indoors and in front of screens, good light hygiene is essential.

Morning: Get bright, cool light exposure to signal wakefulness. Natural sunlight is ideal, but bright indoor light works too.

Afternoon: Standard ambient lighting is fine. Take breaks to get natural light exposure if possible.

Evening: This is where light hygiene matters most. Switch to warm, dim lighting. A Night Light app like Wonder Light makes this easy.

Before bed: Use the Night Light at its warmest (2000K) and dimmest (1-5%) setting for 15-20 minutes of wind-down time.

Developers who practice good light hygiene report better sleep, improved focus during work hours, and fewer eye strain issues. It's a simple practice with significant returns.

Your code is only as good as the brain that writes it. Take care of both.
