mac homebrew "VSM: Could not get hold of varnishd, is it running?" solved

The Problem

When you install varnish natively on your macOS you might run into issues when using tools like varnishlog, varnishtop, ...

You will get an error-message like:

$ varnishlog
.....
VSM: Could not get hold of varnishd, is it running?
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The Solution

To solve the issue, simply add the working directory to the commands:

varnishlog -n /usr/local/var/varnish
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

This should fix the problem.
