Destiny 2 runs on a capable engine that scales well. The game mixes PvE and PvP modes with very different performance demands. These settings balance FPS headroom in 6-player activities and raid encounters while keeping the game sharp.
Display Settings
Window Mode — Fullscreen.
Resolution — Native. Destiny 2's art style holds detail well at native resolution.
Framerate Cap — Cap at monitor refresh rate. Destiny's simulation cap is 60Hz for network-relevant events (player positions, damage registration) regardless of your render FPS, so there is diminishing gameplay value above your monitor's refresh rate.
VSync — Off. Enable adaptive sync through your GPU driver instead.
Graphics Settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Level of Detail | High |
| Antialiasing | SMAA High or FXAA |
| Screen Space Ambient Occlusion | Off |
| Texture Anisotropy | 16x |
| Texture Quality | Highest (VRAM permitting) |
| Shadow Quality | Low |
| Fog Quality | Low |
| Depth of Field | Off |
| Motion Blur | Off |
| Wind Impulse | Off |
| Chromatic Aberration | Off |
| Film Grain | Off |
| High Dynamic Range | Off (unless monitor is properly HDR calibrated) |
SSAO Note
Screen Space Ambient Occlusion is one of the heavier GPU draws in Destiny 2. Disabling it gives a 5–15% FPS uplift in crowded encounters with negligible visual difference from the player's perspective.
PvP Specific
In Crucible and Trials of Osiris, reducing Shadow Quality to Low is particularly important. Shadows cast by players can make characters harder to track against complex geometry backgrounds.
Field of View — 100–105. Destiny 2 is a first-person game where a wider FOV helps awareness without the distortion of extreme values.
Monitor Settings for Destiny 2
- Brightness — Destiny has a built-in PC brightness slider under Video settings. Use it first before adjusting the monitor
- Color Temperature — 6500K neutral; Destiny 2's color grading is designed for this target
- Adaptive sync — On. Destiny can vary frame delivery in busy encounters
