Hello Dev.to! I'm Building in Rust π¦
Hey everyone π
I'm Hisanori Yoshimura, a backend engineer living in Japan π―π΅
Currently working on SentRa, a Rust-based lightweight metrics collection and observability tool.
What Does "SentRa" Mean?
It's a coined term from Sentinel + Ra β
A guardian of open systems, like Ra, the sun god βοΈ
It watches over your services and keeps them healthy.
What I'm Working On
I'm passionate about:
- 𧱠Clean Architecture
- β‘ Asynchronous systems using gRPC + GraphQL
- π Real-time metrics & observability
- π₯ Medical DX (healthcare modernization in Japan)
Why Medical DX?
Because I'm also a radiological technologist.
Surprised? It's actually kind of cool to be both a radiologist and an engineer, right?
More seriously, the Japanese medical industry is still lagging behind in cloud adoption.
Many systems are on-premise with high maintenance costs and outdated security models.
Iβm building OSS tools to help change that β starting with metrics.
Main Project: SentRa
SentRa is a Rust-based system for collecting, analyzing, and exposing custom metrics
using GraphQL and gRPC.
Itβs inspired by Prometheus, but lightweight and built for distributed microservices, sidecars, and embedded observability.
Why Rust?
- π§ Type safety and fearless concurrency
- πͺ Performance and reliability matter in healthcare
- π€ Itβs fun to write (seriously)
Whatβs Next?
I'm working on an online course about:
- Rust Clean Architecture
- Building scalable backends with GraphQL/gRPC
Also planning to open source some of these tools and share with the community.
Letβs connect if youβre into:
- π¦ Rust
- π Observability
- π Distributed Systems
- or even Python / TypeScript!
Thanks for reading β
Love from Japan π―π΅
Hisanori
