Now to start off, I think it would be best for you to get to know me a little bit. I am a student and I am interested in coding and computer science.
The question I will attempt to answer, should all students learn to code? The short answer is no. The longer answer is a bit more complicated.
Ever since humans have been inventing, we have a tendency to have big eyes. Now don't get me wrong, technology one of, if not the most influential and useful man-made creations of all time. The real issue with the flawed ideology that everyone needs to code is that not everyone will code. It's that simple.
As the world progresses to be more and more dependent on new technology, the demand for talent in the industry increases. But that has been the case for everything. When the first laws were written, or when medicine became widespread, there wasn't this thought that everyone needed to go to law school or medical school. Only a certain few, the literal doctors and lawyers had to receive the necessary skills. Today, however, most people know the basics of these professions, ie they know what is and isn't illegal and how to heal minor injuries.
My overall message here is that most people should at the minimum, know how computers or what they use on an everyday basis work. This doesn't just apply to technology. Even with the foods we eat. Not everyone needs to farm, but we know how it is grown and gets to us.
