I basically knew how to code, but I didn't know I wanted to be a software developer...
I'd say I knew I wanted to actually pursue the career after starting another career path I really didn't enjoy compared to work I'd done with software, and then getting back into re-learning coding and finding success. Once I felt like I knew I didn't want to do the other thing and I did have the chops for this path, there wasn't much looking back.
