An indoor lap counter

Hello,

I’m trying to make an app that automatically counts my laps (given a start point).
I often do laps around the house or do laps for religious purposes and I realized that it’s challenging to keep an accurate count of how many laps I’ve done.

Easier said than don’t though - I’ve tried everything from a GPS sensor, compass, accelerometer, pedometer, and even a stopwatch, but no method is accurate or consistent enough. I am using the MIT app inventor right now to code my prototypes but I am open to other options as well.

Do you have any ideas?
