This blog is an overview of Azure Quickstart Center as a guide to an individual or organization who is new to the Microsoft Azure platform, who wishes to understand its structure, best practice and usage without wasting valuable time.
We will begin by taking an overview of the Azure Quickstart Center and conclude by deploying an Azure resource using the Quickstart Center.
OVERVIEW OF AZURE QUICKSTART CENTER
The Azure Quickstart Center is the fastest way to explore and get yourself acquainted to the Azure architecture and services.
The quickstart center has a step-by-step guide of how to find your way around the Azure platform.
Let us review some steps to getting the best out of Azure Quickstart Center.
STEP 1: OVERVIEW OF THE QUICKSTART CENTER
Sign into the Azure portal at https://portal.azure.com
Type and select Quick startcenter in the search bar at the top of the page.
In the quick startcenter page, you will be presented with two options of Projects and guides or Take an online course.
Under Projects and guides, you have Start a project and right below, you will see the template of seven most popular Azure services. You may dive-in by selecting the service you wish to use. This will allow you learn, as you build new workloads in Azure.
- Or you scroll down further on same page to see the Setup guides that will walk you through deployment scenarios to help you set up, manage, and secure your Azure environment.
- On the other hand, you can select the Take an online course option if you wish to learn about Azure before using the service. This will usher you into a page that has five course modules that will guide you through the basis of understanding Azure, and also an option of Browse our full Azure catalog if you wish to see more.
You can select any of the above courses to start you Azure journey.
STEP 2: QUICKEST WAY TO PROVISION A RESOURCE
Let us look at another very important use of the Quickstart center.
When you wish to quickly deploy a resource in Azure, your surest and fastest means of achieving this is through the Quickstart center, because it provides you with access to deployment templates of all the Azure services with all the best-practice configurations in place.
Let demonstrate this by creating a Web App
- Go to Quickstart center and select Projects and guides, go to Create a web app and click Start.
This will take you to Create a web app page with two options Build and host a web app with Azure Web Apps or Build and host a web app with Azure Web Apps with a database.
We are selecting the first option for this exercise, since we just want to host a web app.
- Click the Create button. This will open the page for us to enter the basic details of the web app such as Resource group and Name of the application.
- Scrolling further down the page, we will notice that every other configuration information has been provided by default. This makes it possible for us to create the application and start using it, saving us time and effort we would have spent on configuration.
Click on Review + create button to start creating the web app.
This reviews and displays the information of the web app to be created.Click on the Create button.
