Building Intergenerational Games

The communication and interest gulfs between 3 year olds, 30 year olds, and 60 year olds is well attested across cultures and time. The perspective and need differences of each age fully highlights the nearly impossible task of building intergenerational games. As we age, grow, and learn from our experiences, our tastes change. Likewise, some tastes never change, rather they solidify into our preferences.

The Questions

  1. What if we had a gaming system that took changing interests and lifelong preferences into account, aged with the player, used AI to track and maintain game progress, and blockchain to reward player efforts with skill certificates and cryptocurrency?

  2. Would you play the game?

  3. How do we design an intergenerational, cradle-to-grave software experience, when Moore's Law laughs in the face of last year's obsolete techs?

How do we do it?

Let AI tailor the gaming experiences to each age, preference, and skill level.

We must understand the motivations of each age group; and then, create the game to level as they age. Natural age transitions should be based on individual progress as well as on age averages. Player performance tracked by an AI can control transitions. The longevity of the AI's stack can't be guaranteed, as such, it seems a modular system would be preferable.

Player interests are proven through player actions. As players focus their in-game attention on doing quest actions, they'll receive blockchain rewards upon completing the quest. As they pass the levels, they receive XP, HP, and Geld. And, as they pass the quests they receive bonus multipliers and random loot boxes.

More Questions

  1. Will the different age groups require different reward types?

  2. Since the levels are determined by doctors and completed by their potential patients, do the rewards even matter when we're talking about access to healthcare?

I'll leave you with that last question to ponder.
