@tevita Dave, what you say is worth examining. If a member of my team feel disrepected and ignored, it's highly likely that she will not produce the best work that she can do, as long as she feels not respected. So I don't understand why I should just assume that she might be wrong, because in general it's always possible that people are wrong, instead of listening to her in particular to have her own take on what makes her feel that way? I mean, even apart from the fact that we want to be good people and treat our colleagues with respect, I don't see the upside of not listening from a pure efficiency perspective.

I get what you are saying. My point is more that I am very sceptical of an online jury which, on account of hearing just one side of a story, seem quite comfortable telling someone that, yes, your employer is 100% the problem and you are faultless.

Reading some of Desire's responses there is some evidence of a lack of willingness to accept criticism or alternative viewpoints. I doubt she is entirely faultless and if you find that everyone is against you it might be a good time to consider one's own behaviour. At the very least, the response given here that automatically backs her will likely entrench her belief.

But second, little of the feedback given to her post actually disregards her opinion. So I'm surprised it has been taken so negatively, with quite tame posts being filtered out and seemingly only one viewpoint being acceptable.

DesirΓ©, no, I can. We were all young once and I work with many talented youngsters. Some are absolutely brilliant. My most brilliant are also the most humble, who clearly get satisfaction and validation from a job well done. The approval of others is nice to have but not necessary.

I would advise to not seek credit. If you do something, and someone gets the credit, congratulate them. Be determinedly selfless, take pride in your own work if you want, but don't expect others to extend that to you.

You will likely find after adopting that attitude for a while that your workplace experience might improve.

I would also advise saving this thread somewhere. Come back to it in 5 years time and re-read it. There are valuable lessons to be learnt here about humility.
