Do you pay for database storage?

Data is a significant resource that lies in the heart of almost every business. When the business grows, the data grows too and it's important to have enough storage for it.

Are free plans generous enough for your personal projects or do you pay for the storage space?

Not for now! I’m using the same server for database too, for security entire instance is backed up and pushed to S3 every 10 mins

Thanks for the response! 😉 Also, would you be ready to pay for it once the site starts to get massive traction, hitting the DB limits? 👀

Not sure, I’m bit worried about the latency and complexity, but sure if I reach 1M users 😅🤞

Hahah, yup 😀 It's always a good practice to think ahead. That way if you suddenly hit a boost of traffic, you are prepared and already know what to do. 😉

Taskord is completely running on sponsors cuz we are open source, DO sponsor us for three years ($250/year) in the row and still, they will in future. In 2020 AWS sponsored us with $1800 till 2022 so I hope this project will sustain long.

My recommendation, be careful, having everything within the same instance is not a good practice. But, of course, depends if it is a test app or a production one.

Thanks, @madza and @levivm , I'm started working on to replicate the Instance to DigitalOcean Database right now!

Perfect :) it would get better and better.

I see you are developing your own app, here, there is a post I made about coding best practices. Hope it could be helpful.

Oh nice, what is the goal of your app ?

The goal is to make makers to ship things in public, simply to share their checklist/roadmap etc

Think it is like social media for tasks 😊.

I'm currently working in more integrations like Trello, Todoist etc. Today GitHub and GitLab integration left beta and promoted to general availability.

If you want to know more DM me in Dev.to/Twitter 😇

I am considering paying for

  • Backup
  • Features (Postgres, rather than MongoDB. Maybe also Elasticsearch.)
  • Self hosting (Digital Ocean)

Storage size is not yet a problem for me. Problems are more of CPU / RAM / features.
