Jordanian pleads guilty to selling access to 50 corporate networks

⚠️ Region Alert: UAE/Middle East

Feras Khalil Ahmad Albashiti, a 40-year-old Jordanian national also known as "r1z," has pleaded guilty to charges related to his role as an initial access broker (IAB). Albashiti was extradited from Georgia in July 2024 after law enforcement linked him to the sale of unauthorized access to the computer networks of at least 50 companies. The investigation utilized undercover operations to purchase credentials from the defendant on cybercrime forums using cryptocurrency.

As an initial access broker, Albashiti functioned as a critical middleman in the ransomware ecosystem, providing threat actors with the entry points needed to deploy malicious tools, steal sensitive data, or conduct espionage. He currently faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and substantial fines. His sentencing is scheduled for May 11, 2026, marking another significant legal blow against the infrastructure supporting global cybercrime and ransomware operations.
