This is an awesome post, really interested and called my attention to do the same, and enter into the open source world. Only thing missing is "how do you make money with an open source product like yours?".
It's simple actually. He offers users the option of self-hosting or paying a small fee to use the app right away.
Exactly... Promotion is good, but I missed the money making part too.
Damn, with $2K a month, I could quit my bloody 9-to-6 corporate job where I am forced to use stupid Windows and Eclipse.
But as much as i know in US even an sde intern gets more than that?
Haha. smile

Q - How to motivate the others to contribute in that case? Won't they feel reluctant do make free contributions to a paid tool that, in theory, gives money to someone else?
Great story, i'm building some side products and selling them on codecrayon, maybe open sourcing my X-wallet(Ethereum airdrop/asset management wallet) would be great idea.
Thank you very much for sharing your insights!
Please help me understand that after making Postiz open source why did developers joined and contributed? I am really keen to understand the motivation. Why would developers contribute to Postiz open source for free?
One thing that makes Open Source be Opoen Source is the community, members are always ready to support. Also, with the fast pace growth of Open Source activities, everyone wants to take part to become a contributor either as a developer, designer, documentation, technical writers, testers, and etc. Open Source is a great place to build fast amazing stuffs because of the unique love and support.
Someone will hate me for saying this but you could have used something like wix to slap out a basic site in a few hours and it would be getting the search authority you seek. And if it were a WP you can use ping lists to blow that ish up.
The best marketing is comments. This is how you market it. Find relevant conversations and mention it in the comments. Before you know it "everyone is taking about it" I'm the best for a reason. π
Thanks @nevodavid for this greate article that encourages me to ask for feedback for my first open-source (VizBlend) project. If it got your interest, kindy star it β
