If you build with Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, v0, Replit, or another AI-assisted stack, the first version of the app can appear surprisingly fast.
The trap is that the app often feels "done" before it is actually ready for real users.
The code exists. The demo mostly works. But the last 10% is where trust breaks:
- mobile layout glitches
- dead buttons
- confusing first-click paths
- forms with no useful error states
- pricing or CTA copy that is still vague
- missing smoke tests for the one path that matters
Here is the short checklist I would run before sending traffic to an AI-built app.
1. Test the app like a stranger
Do not test it like the person who built it.
Start from a cold browser session and ask:
- What is this product?
- What should I click first?
- What do I get if I continue?
If those answers are fuzzy in the first minute, the app is not actually launch-ready yet.
2. Check the first-click path
Most early apps have one path that matters more than every other path.
Examples:
- landing page to signup
- homepage to demo
- upload flow to result
- pricing page to checkout
If that path is unclear, broken, or awkward on mobile, you do not have a growth problem yet. You have a product clarity problem.
3. Test mobile before polishing desktop
Founders often polish the desktop view because that is where they built the app.
Users do not care.
They care whether the app:
- fits the screen
- keeps buttons tappable
- avoids broken spacing
- handles forms cleanly
One ugly mobile state can make the whole product feel fragile.
4. Verify every form has useful success and error states
Common failures:
- the submit button does nothing obvious
- the error message is too vague
- success is not confirmed
- invalid fields are not highlighted clearly
If a user has to guess whether something worked, trust drops immediately.
5. Look for dead buttons and empty links
AI-built prototypes often carry half-connected UI from previous prompts or iterations:
- buttons with no action
- nav items that go nowhere
- footer links pointing to placeholders
- coming soon states that were never cleaned up
These small misses are what make a product feel unfinished.
6. Explain pricing and CTA in one screen
Many early apps make the user work too hard to answer simple questions:
- What does this do?
- Who is it for?
- What happens if I click?
- Is this free, trial-based, or paid?
The more guessing you force, the weaker your conversion path becomes.
7. Add one smoke test for the main path
You do not need a giant QA suite to ship a small app.
You do need one reliable check for the path that matters most.
That might be:
- landing page -> signup
- signup -> dashboard
- upload -> generated output
- pricing -> checkout handoff
Even one small automated check is better than re-learning the same launch break by hand.
8. Use screenshots as proof
If you are reviewing quality, screenshots beat vague commentary.
They make issue lists:
- easier to trust
- faster to fix
- easier to share with a teammate or founder
That matters because the goal is not to generate more notes. The goal is to generate a short fix list that actually gets done.
9. Keep security work separate
Launch QA is not the same thing as security testing.
Launch QA is about the public experience, broken states, clarity, and readiness. Security work should stay authorized, scoped, and separate.
10. Ship with a prioritized fix list
The best outcome is not a giant audit.
The best outcome is:
- top issues first
- clear reproduction notes
- screenshots
- concrete fixes
- enough confidence to ship without pretending the app is perfect
That is the standard I would use before pushing real traffic to an AI-built app.
