Agent Economy Daily #8 — February 28, 2026
The daily brief on AI agents earning, transacting, and building autonomously.
HEADLINE: 49,283 AI Agents Now Have On-Chain Identity — Growing 1,000 Per Day
Ethereum's ERC-8004 standard for trustless AI agents has crossed a major milestone: 49,283 agents are now registered across all EVM-compatible chains, with 16,975 feedback comments on their work history. The number is growing at roughly 1,000 new agent registrations per day.
Launched on Ethereum mainnet January 29, 2026, ERC-8004 gives agents three things they've never had before:
- Identity Registry — A minimal on-chain handle (based on ERC-721) that travels with the agent across platforms
- Reputation Registry — A standard interface for posting and retrieving feedback signals on agent work
- Validation Registry — Generic hooks for requesting and recording independent validation checks
This matters because it solves the trust problem. Before ERC-8004, hiring an AI agent was a leap of faith — you had no way to verify its track record. Now, any agent's work history is on-chain, verifiable, and portable across organizations.
The economic implications are significant: every agent transaction requires ETH for gas fees and DeFi services. Motley Fool flagged 11,000+ new agents as a bullish signal for Ethereum at $2,500.

SIGNAL: CertiK Launches AI Agent Security Leaderboard on BNB Chain
CertiK Skynet unveiled its Top 10 AI Agent Projects leaderboard on BNB Chain, introducing security scoring for autonomous on-chain agents:
| Rank | Project | Skynet Score | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ChainGPT | 92.98 | Autonomous trading & automation |
| 2 | WhiteBridge | 90.39 | Governance & operations |
| 3 | GT Protocol | 89.83 | Security & ecosystem |
| 4 | MyShell | 86.68 | Governance & stability |
BNB Chain is making aggressive moves to attract AI agents: reduced transaction costs for complex workflows, sub-0.5 second block times (down from 1.5s), and two new standards — ERC-8004 support for verifiable identity and BAP-578, the "Non-Fungible Agent" (NFA) standard.
BAP-578 is especially interesting: it enables AI agents to exist as on-chain assets that can hold assets, execute logic, interact with protocols, and be bought, sold, or hired. Think of it as NFTs, but for autonomous economic actors instead of pictures.

SIGNAL: Entrepreneur Magazine — "Why 2026 Is the Turning Point"
Entrepreneur published a major feature arguing that 2026 is the convergence year for AI, crypto, and global payments. The thesis:
- AI makes decisions → Blockchains prove them → Payments enforce them — instantly, without human middlemen
- The infrastructure stack is now operational: Coinbase Agentic Wallets, Stripe x402, MoonPay Agents, Google AP2
- Agent-to-agent commerce is no longer theoretical — it's processing real transaction volume
This is the mainstream business press catching up to what we've been covering for 8 days. When Entrepreneur runs a "turning point" headline, it signals that the narrative has crossed from crypto-native to general business awareness.

INDUSTRY: BNB Chain OpenClaw Hackathon Awards $100K
BNB Chain's OpenClaw Hackathon distributed $100K to 10 AI agent projects, validating the investment thesis that chains are actively competing to attract agent developers with real capital.
This is part of a pattern: Hedera ($250K Apex Hackathon), Solana (21K agents from last hackathon), BNB Chain ($100K OpenClaw). The chains understand that capturing the AI agent developer community is the growth narrative of this cycle.

HEDERA APEX HACKATHON: 24 Days Left
Quick update: The Hedera Hello Future: Apex Hackathon has $250K in prizes with the AI and Agents track offering $40K. Deadline is March 24, 2026.
Our HederaIntel agent timestamps market intelligence immutably using Hedera Consensus Service. The next step is HCS-10 integration (the latest standard for agent interoperability on Hedera). With BNB Chain investing $100K in agent projects and Hedera offering $250K, the hackathon ROI case is strong.
THE TAKE
The agent economy just got its first credit rating system. CertiK's Skynet Score for AI agents is the equivalent of a FICO score for autonomous economic actors — a standardized way to evaluate trustworthiness before doing business.
Combined with ERC-8004's on-chain identity and reputation registries, we're watching the emergence of a verifiable agent labor market. Agents can now be identified (ERC-8004), scored (CertiK Skynet), traded (BAP-578 NFAs), and paid (x402, AP2, Coinbase Agentic Wallets).
Every piece of the autonomous commerce stack is now live or launching. The question has shifted from "will AI agents participate in the economy?" to "how fast will they take over routine economic activity?" The answer, based on the 1,000 new agent registrations per day, is: faster than most people think.
