Happy- ‘Cause I’m happy.
A smile really does go a long way. Yes I know you’re exhausted. Yes working in tech is hard.
Yes you also have personal things going on, but your manager should not know that.
Showing your manager that you are happy to be a part of the team is crucial to make it as a junior developer.
Trust me when I say this, your mood affects your code.
Keeping your morale high will not only improve your work, it will boost your co- workers spirits too.
Be that person who comes to the office and says good morning to everyone.
Hungry- Hungry for success
You're a junior, you have your whole career ahead of you.
How far are you willing to go to prove yourself?
Managers love someone who is motivated. You want to show to them that they didn’t make a mistake in hiring you and you have what it takes.
Honest- Honesty really is the best policy.
Managers need someone they know they can trust and don’t have to micromanage. If you’re facing a struggle in an assignment, speak up as early as possible. No one is going to blame you as a junior for not knowing how to solve a problem, but they will blame you for not being honest and asking for help when needed.
Humble- A little humility goes a long way
Yes , I’m sure you think you have great ideas, and I’m sure some of them are good too. But no manager likes a newbie telling them how they should run the show.
Knowing your place on a dev team has great value, be it junior or senior.
Look for opportune time to casually bring up your ideas- but do be prepared to hear, ‘That’s a great idea, but we have other problems to solve first’.
