Extending markdown with template engine, and security?

I am currently getting interested in LiquidJS, actually. Used to use Handlebars.

My concern is rendering IFrame which only allowed for specific liquid tags, for example {% youtube XXXX %}. Which markdown engine / template engine would be considered safe? Do I need / how do I use DOMPurify?
