Today's Work: Editing Hero Section Videos for My Portfolio
Today, I focused on creating and editing hero section videos for my landing page using Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
The Challenge of Capturing the Right Time of Day
I wanted to include clips representing like the following images:
While I had decent early morning footage, the daytime photos I had on hand couldn’t be convincingly adjusted to look like sunset. No matter how much I color-graded them, the tones just wouldn’t match. So I decided to drop the sunset scene for now and keep the visuals grounded in reality.
Storytelling: A Farmer’s Journey
I completed an edited version of a 1-minute storytelling video that highlights the journey of a local producer. The story begins with:
- Cleaning up an abandoned greenhouse once overrun with weeds
- Restoring the space
- And eventually harvesting fresh asparagus
It’s a powerful narrative that reflects dedication and resilience but I’m still unsure if 1 minute is too long for the hero section.
After wrapping it up, I came across a TikTok video I saw where the farmer uses humor to express how delicious their asparagus is. In retrospect, that short, fun style might be more effective, especially for mobile-first viewers...
I might try re-editing a short, snappier version later.
Planning for Seasonal Variations
The landing page will include multiple sections that change with the seasons, so I’ll need to create several versions of the hero video as well.
Each version will align with a different theme and audience focus:
Three Storytelling Approaches I'm Exploring
- Emotional & Narrative-Based
Focus: The farmer’s personal story and the revival of abandoned farmland.
Why: This is the strongest point of differentiation for Umemura Farm. Showcasing the couple’s personality and hard work builds deep trust.
Visuals: From neglected land to lush harvest.
Goal: Build emotional connection.
- Product-Focused & Appetite-Driven
Focus: The unique selling point, asparagus sweet enough to eat raw.
Why: This hits directly at consumer desire and triggers purchase behavior.
Visuals: Close-ups of fresh asparagus, someone taking a crunchy bite, simple preparation steps.
Goal: Convert visitors into buyers.
- Nature-Centric & Seasonal Beauty
Focus: The stunning nature of Mt. Yahata and the surrounding landscape throughout the year.
Why: Most farms can’t claim this kind of visual appeal. This approach communicates consistent quality and environmental value.
Visuals: Seasonal transitions, mountainscapes, and planting cycles.
Goal: Reinforce brand uniqueness and year-round engagement.
To Do: Write Matching Headlines
Each video version will need a strong, theme-specific headline. That will be the next task, copywriting is just as crucial as the visuals.
What’s Next?
I’ve gathered all the photos I need for now.
Tomorrow, I’ll start placing them on the page though I know it won’t be easy.
One thing I’m trying to do differently is keeping the design as simple as possible, both visually and structurally. Clean layouts help let the story and product speak for themselves.
If you’ve ever had to balance emotional storytelling, product messaging, and design simplicity, I’d love to hear how you handled it especially when working with seasonal content and video!
