Native grasslands have been vastly transformed with the expansion of human activities. Applied fire regimes offer conservation-based management an opportunity to enhance remaining grassland biodiversity and secure its persistence into the future. Fire regimes have complex interactions with abiotic and biotic ecosystem components that influence environmental heterogeneity and biodiversity. We examined the pyrodiversity-biodiversity hypothesis, which suggests that more species are supported where pyrodiversity, that is, the level of environmental heterogeneity associated with different fire regimes, is greater. A mesocosm-type field experiment, maintained for 38 yr, was used to determine the response of plant diversity to 1-, 2-, 5- and 12-yr fire-return interval treatments, with early-dormant, middormant and early-growing season burns. Our sampling regime was designed to assess the influence of fire treatments and combinations thereof, over spatial scale, on plant diversity. Pyrodiversity was maximized where fh scale and forb turnover over the trial area. Extremes in fire-return intervals reduced forb richness, supporting the predictions of the intermediate-disturbance hypothesis. Spring burns had a weak negative influence on forb alpha diversity, but only at small scales. For a meaningful contribution of management to plant diversity, traditional fixed biennial burns need to be supplemented with smaller patches burned with longer fire-return intervals, and extremes in fire-return intervals avoided.A Zr-based metal-organic polyhedron (MOP) was self-assembled in a porous MOF host, DUT-68, successfully to synthesize MOP-1@DUT-68. The MOP guest (MOP-1) has a diameter of about 20 Å, larger than that of the square windows (pore sizes of ∼14 Å) of DUT-68 but smaller than that of the rhombicuboctahedral cage (27.7 Å), which means that the migration and leaching of MOP-1 could be effectively prohibited if MOP-1 is encapsulated in the MOF's cavities. The proton conductivity of MOP-1@DUT-68 is 1.14×10-3  S cm-1 (at 80 °C under 98 % relative humidity), which is three orders of magnitude higher than that of DUT-68. This study aims to assess the effects of crocin administration during doxorubicin-based chemotherapy of breast cancer on anxiety, depression, and chemotherapy toxicity profile. Seventy-two patients with non-metastatic Her2/neu positive or triple negative breast cancer were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either 30 mg/day of crocin or placebo during chemotherapy [22]. Beck's Depression and Anxiety Inventories were used at baseline and end of the trial. In addition, the ECOG Common Toxicity Criteria were applied to assess chemotherapy side-effects. After the intervention, the degree of anxiety and depression decreased significantly in the crocin group (p = .001 for both) and increased significantly in the placebo-group (p = .006 and p = .036, respectively). There were significantly higher grade II-IV leukopenia (47.2% vs. 19.4%, p = .012) in the crocin group, and grade II-IV hypersensitivity-reaction (30.6% vs. 5.6%, p = .006) in addition to neurological disorders (66.7% vs. 41.7%, p = .03) in the placebo-group. The results indicate that using crocin during chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer has ameliorated anxiety and depression. Moreover, leucopenia increased whereas hypersensitivity reaction and neurological disorders decreased in the crocin group. In this study, different 13 C-labeled substrates were supplied as carbon sources to H. pylori during microaerophilic growth in a complex medium. After growth, 13 C-excess and 13 C-distribution were determined in multiple metabolites using GC-MS analysis. [U-13 C6 ]Glucose was efficiently converted into glyceraldehyde but only less into TCA cycle-related metabolites. In contrast, [U-13 C5 ]glutamate, [U-13 C4 ]succinate, and [U-13 C4 ]aspartate were incorporated at high levels into intermediates of the TCA cycle. To understand the most recent, real-time CO2 concentration levels and their key influencing factors in aircraft cabins, we conducted in-flight measurements of 52 randomly selected commercial flights with different aircraft types and durations from August 2017 to August 2019. The spatial temporal characteristics of CO2 concentrations on board were analyzed and summarized. For the flight time scale, the CO2 concentrations during the boarding phase (1680 ± 558 ppmv) were notably higher than that in other phases, whereas the condition of the cruising phase was the lowest in most flights. The flight average CO2 concentrations of the cruising phase were 1253 ± 164 ppmv, and the corresponding estimated outside airflow rates were 6.2 ± 1.3 L/s/p in the economy class across all flights. Single-aisle and twin-aisle flights did not show noticeable differences for the same phases. Relatively uniform CO2 concentrations were observed at different positions of the same class.check details
