mastercard and visa just made agent payments real

in the last month, mastercard and visa both launched AI agent payment solutions. paypal released its first MCP server. the infrastructure layer is moving fast.

this matters because it turns agent commerce from a thought experiment into a compliance problem. if your SaaS sells to agents, you now need to answer: how do you verify identity? how do you set spending limits? how do you produce an audit trail that survives a chargeback dispute?

the card networks are building for enterprise. that leaves a gap for SMBs and indie developers who need agent billing today, not in Q3 after a 6-month integration.

mnemopay was built for this exact window. it gives you agent wallets, spend controls, and real-time logs without waiting for visa to return your BD email.

the bigger shift: agents won't use cards long-term. pay-per-call microtransactions in stablecoins make more sense when the average purchase is $0.003 for a single API call. card fees don't work at that scale.

so the current wave of launches is phase one. phase two is when agents stop pretending to be cardholders and start transacting like machines. that's where the real design work begins.
