The state of Mizoram has been declared ‘insurgency-free’ following the formal surrender of the last active militant group in the state. In a ceremony described as a “homecoming,” 43 cadres of the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic), or HPC(D), laid down their arms before government officials at Sesawng, near the state capital of Aizawl.[1] The event marks a significant institutional success for India's internal security apparatus and its long-standing policy of resolving insurgencies through political dialogue and integration.

The surrender of the HPC(D) brings to a close the final chapter of armed militancy that has affected Mizoram for decades. The group, including its leader, a Mr. Sanate, turned over their weapons in a government-hosted ceremony, effectively ceasing to exist as an armed entity.[1] This development is the culmination of a patient, multi-pronged strategy involving both the Union and state governments, which has historically prioritized negotiation over purely kinetic operations in the state.
