Although there are many advanced data analysis tools available today, Excel remains an important skill for students, businesses, and professionals because it is easy to use and powerful enough for many everyday tasks.

During my first week of learning Excel, I learned several useful features and formulas that are commonly used in data analysis.

The SUM function is used to add numbers quickly. Instead of adding values manually, Excel can calculate the total automatically.

2. AVERAGE Function

The AVERAGE function calculates the mean value of a set of numbers.

3. Charts and Data Visualization

Excel charts transform raw data into visual insights. Instead of reading long tables, users can quickly identify trends and patterns.

4. AutoFill Feature

Sorting arranges data in ascending or descending order, while filtering displays only the information you need.

These features help analysts focus on relevant information and improve data organization.

Personal Reflection

Learning Excel has changed the way I see data. Before, I viewed data as just numbers in a table. Now, I understand that data can provide valuable insights when it is properly organized and analyzed. Excel has shown me how information can be transformed into knowledge that supports decision-making. As a Data Science student at Co-operative University of Kenya, I believe Excel is an important foundation for developing stronger data analysis skills in the future.
