Hello everyone, my name is Abeeb Maroof, and I’d love to share my journey to becoming a frontend developer.
My interest in technology began with a simple curiosity about how websites, applications, and games worked. This curiosity grew after my first year at university when I took a computer science course that introduced me to the basics of HTML and CSS. That initial spark soon turned into a deep fascination with frontend development.
The journey took a significant turn during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the global shift towards technology pushed me further into the tech world—a journey that is still ongoing. In 2022, I joined the SideHustle internship to strengthen my knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. By then, I already had some foundational skills from platforms like SoloLearn, W3Schools, and various YouTube tutorials. I continued with the next SideHustle cohort to learn React.js, but balancing school activities slowed my progress.
Later, during the HNGX program, I was removed at stage three. Although frustrating, that setback fueled my determination. I continued learning React.js and later Next.js, pushing myself to improve. When HNG 11 came around, I was proud to be among the finalists.
Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from senior developers and gain hands-on experience working with organizations like Entacrest Nexus, CodeConure, and others. The ability to craft user interfaces, bring designs to life with code, and directly impact the user experience is incredibly appealing to me and keeps me wanting to do more. I’m drawn to the dynamic nature of the field, the constant evolution of technologies, and the endless possibilities for creativity.
The sense of accomplishment I feel when seeing a project come together—from an initial idea to a polished product—is incredibly rewarding. This passion for building and problem-solving fuels my desire to become a proficient frontend developer.
How HNG Will Help Me Achieve My Goals
HNG, which stands for Help Newbies Grow, is an organization dedicated to guiding aspiring developers through real-world experiences and enhancing their skills through its internship program. They offer various roles and notify participants of new internship opportunities as they arise. HNG also provides platforms like HIRE-REACT and HIRE-NEXT, where companies can hire skilled and passionate developers like myself.
The HNG Internship presents an invaluable opportunity to accelerate my growth in this field. I’m particularly drawn to HNG’s structured learning approach and its emphasis on practical, real-world projects. The chance to collaborate with other aspiring developers, learn from experienced mentors, and contribute to real-world applications is exactly what I need to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
My Goals for the HNG Internship
My goals for the HNG Internship are threefold:
Solidify My Fundamentals
I aim to strengthen my understanding of frontend basics and gain proficiency in advanced frontend technologies.
Build an Impressive Portfolio
I want to create projects that showcase my skills and demonstrate my ability to develop user-friendly, responsive interfaces.
Expand My Professional Network
I hope to connect with fellow developers and industry professionals, building relationships that will be invaluable as I launch my career.
To achieve these goals, I plan to actively participate in the internship, diligently work on assigned tasks, and seek feedback from mentors and peers. I’m also committed to continuous learning outside of the program, staying updated with the latest trends and technologies in the ever-evolving world of frontend development.
I believe the combination of structured learning, practical experience, and networking opportunities offered by HNG will be instrumental in helping me achieve my dream of becoming a successful frontend developer.
