Technical interviews are widely described as a way to measure how engineers think. In practice, they measure something far more specific and far less discussed: how well a person’s cognition holds up under stress.

Interviews reward the opposite. They favor certainty, speed, and clean explanations. Exploration is often misinterpreted as a lack of understanding.
