You've downloaded an important document—maybe it's your flight itinerary, a contract you need to review, or a recipe you've been meaning to try. You double-click the file, and instead of your document appearing on screen, your computer asks you what program you want to use to open it.
This is what happens when your computer doesn't have PDF reader software installed. The good news? This is one of the easiest PDF problems to solve.
Signs That You're Missing a PDF Reader
- The "How do you want to open this file?" dialog appears
- The PDF icon is generic (blank white page)
- PDFs open in Notepad or WordPad showing code
- Double-clicking does nothing at all
