Today’s expert session was an exciting hands-on introduction to MongoDB, where we explored how to set up and get started with this powerful NoSQL database. We began by creating an account on Dev.to — a platform for developers to share their learning journey, tutorials, and experiences. Next, we installed MongoDB Compass, the graphical user interface that helps us visualize, query, and manage databases easily without needing command-line tools. The installation process was simple — I downloaded it from the official MongoDB website, followed the setup steps, and explored its intuitive interface. After that, we created an account in MongoDB Atlas, the cloud platform that allows us to host and manage our databases online securely. We signed up, created a free cluster, added a database user, and obtained a connection string. Finally, we connected MongoDB Compass with Atlas by pasting the connection string and successfully accessed our cloud-hosted database. Through this session, I learned how MongoDB stores data in a flexible document format, how Compass simplifies visualization, and how Atlas enables cloud-based database management. It was a productive session that laid a strong foundation for understanding database connectivity and real-world implementation.
