I disagree with your unfounded statement completely. If anything is "dodgy" it's the result of the developer and in that case, I've seen "dodgy" in every single programming language. I would pick PHP as my first programming language for building just about any new web site or application.
I've been a professional C, Perl, PHP and Python developer.
I'm an ex-sysadmin from the late 20th century.
These days I do more Javascript and CSS and whatnot, and promote UX and accessibility.

I guess you are trying to say that you are a WordPress or drupal developer...
Developing sites with CMSs built in PHP doesn't make you a PHP Developer.
I don't side with the article either but i think you are overreacting.

Yes, I mean since 7.0 things have improved a lot. Recently, I have been switching my job, to a one where I will build API's in Python. I did not predict how much I will miss access modifiers, interfaces or type hints from PHP.

Yes, the result of the developers who developed PHP.
You sound jaded and biased like a PHP developer took your job lol 😂
I've been a PHP developer professionally for the last decade or so.
your point being?
My point being a direct and clear response to "you sound like [...] a PHP developer took your job".
A PHP developer didn't take my job, I am a PHP developer.

No, but I do do quite a lot with them depending on the project.
I don't know how to appropriately respond to that?

Yea, if I had a second pick it just might be Python though.
