Robotic Process Automation vs Traditional Automation

Robots and automation have passed beyond our imagination and have become a part of our reality. We are giving robots the ability to think for themselves, just as we do, learn from their surroundings, and act based on their experience. RPA represents the enhancement of human work. These software robots are developed by companies on different platforms made available by the best companies working in this field. Such a platform is provided by UiPath, on the UiPath RPA platform.

What is RPA and traditional automation?

First, without knowing the definitions of RPA (Robotic Process Automation) and Traditional Automation, it is hard to understand the differences between them.

RPA is the use of software with artificial intelligence and machine learning that is used to automate a high volume of repetitive and rule-based tasks. RPA allows organizations to be cost-efficient and to have a quick deploy, delivering the desired result without human involvement.

On the other hand, traditional automation is the automation of any repeated tasks. It combines application integration at a database and it also requires some minimal human interventions. With this kind of automation, humans can make a machine do any task, but RPA is a form of automation that carries out tasks from the very beginning to the end.

How we can implement these technologies?

RPA does not require any change in the existing systems or infrastructure, it imitates human actions to realize the assigned tasks. But this is not happening for the traditional automation, which needs certain customizations in the existing IT infrastructure, and it cannot copy human actions. It only executes the pre-defined programmed instructions.

Another major pro for the RPA is the fact that it can be used by anyone, without the need to know any programming language. They only need to focus on the functionalities given under automation, meanwhile, for the traditional automation users are required to have programming skills and to know the specific programming language so they can use it, and that could be a bit of an inconvenience.
For quick implementations, RPA software requires much less amount of time to process and it and allows the user to attribute work to thousands of virtual machines that can perform the tasks without the requirement of a physical machine. When it comes to traditional automation, it can take about several months for implementation because tests designing, and feasibility studies are required. And, of course, traditional automation uses different programming techniques to achieve parallel execution and physical machines essential to perform this parallel execution, taking more time to be completed.

Neither the price does not represent an advantage for traditional automation. Because traditional automation requires more time, effort, and a considerable workforce, it is cheaper in the initial phase, but in the long run it costs much more. RPA is a little costly in the beginning, but it will save money and time in the long run.

Configured to meet the requirements of every user is a very important particularity of the RPA. It can be combined with some applications such as calendar, e-mail, ERP to synchronize information, and create automated replies. On the other hand, traditional automation is considered a much complex technology compared to RPA. Customizing it with different systems is a real challenge due to its limitations.

When it comes to deciding which one is the right one for you between a traditional automation system or Robotic Process Automation, in most cases, RPA is seen as a precursor to an emancipated automation system. RPA is used for more personalized activities and requires access to a host of other applications. Although, there are some applications that are better off with traditional automation. Traditional automation systems are a huge benefit when, you want to move a large quantity of data between systems, while RPA only works at the speed of the UI.

FASTPATH Automation

Software robots can definitely make our lives better. We just have to work with them to see the benefits. Why should we continue with all those repetitive and boring tasks? We can let the robots work for us while we concentrate our skill on doing something more important.
This what the software robots from FASTPAH Automation do. They make sure the work is done, error-free and faster than any human being.
FASTPATH Automation is the product of CoSo by AROBS in partnership with UiPath, using the UiPath RPA platform.
