The life of a freelancer is a busy one. You can often find yourself juggling a lot of different tasks and priorities all at once. With so much on your plate, it can be tough to set boundaries and make time for yourself. But if you want to be successful in your freelance career, it’s important to create a routine that works for you.
By creating a schedule and sticking to it, you can increase your productivity while working from home. Here are some tips for creating a routine that works for you:
Plan out your working hours ⌚
Determine the hours during which you are most productive. Are you an early bird or a night owl? 🦉
The first step is to figure out what you need to do each day to be productive. For some people, this may mean working from 9 am to 5 pm. For others, it may mean working in the morning and taking a break in the afternoon.
Once you know what your daily routine should look like, it’s important to stick to it as much as possible. This may be difficult at first, but it will get easier over time. You may also need to make some adjustments along the way, depending on how your business is doing.
Try to schedule your most important tasks during the hours when you are most productive.
Set healthy boundaries ✅
When you’re working from home, it can be easy to get sucked into the computer screen for hours on end. Make sure to set specific times for working and stick to them! This will help you maintain a healthy work/life balance. It’s up to you to create a healthy routine as a freelancer that allows you to balance work and leisure without feeling overwhelmed.
Establish clear expectations at the beginning of the project. Make sure both you and the client are clear on what is expected of each of you, and when milestones need to be met. This will help avoid any misunderstandings down the road. Also, if the client is asking for something that you’re not comfortable with, don’t be afraid to say no. It’s important to maintain your integrity and protect your own interests.
Set specific goals 📜
When creating a routine, it’s important to set specific goals rather than just trying to do everything at once. This will help you stay focused and make sure that you accomplish all of your tasks. There are a few things to keep in mind when setting goals as a freelancer. First, make sure your goals are realistic. Don’t set yourself up for failure by trying to accomplish something that’s impossible.
Don’t try to do too much at once or you’ll quickly become overwhelmed. Start with one or two goals and build from there. Also, make sure your goals are specific. "Making more money" is a vague goal that’s difficult to achieve. A better goal would be "earning an extra $1,000 per month by the end of the year." Once you’ve set your goals, it’s important to take actionable steps to achieve them. This might include creating a budget, networking with other freelancers, or learning new skills.
The most important thing is to stay motivated and keep working towards your goals. Achieving your goals as a freelancer takes time and effort, but it’s definitely worth it in the end.
Just be patient and stay focused on your goals. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you won’t achieve your goals overnight either. Just keep working at it and eventually you’ll get there.
Use time tracking apps 🤳
As a freelancer, it’s important to be as productive as possible. This means tracking your time and knowing where it’s going. Thankfully, there are a number of great time tracking apps out there that can help you do just that.
The first app we’ll look at is Toggl. Toggl is a great option for freelancers who need to track time for multiple clients. It’s easy to use and has a number of powerful features, including the ability to track time by client, project, and task. Plus, Toggl integrates with a number of other apps, such as Asana, Trello, and Google Drive, making it a great option for freelancers who need to manage multiple projects.
Another great option for freelancers is Time Doctor because it also offers a number of powerful features, such as the ability to track website and app usage, monitor team productivity, and generate invoices.
RescueTime is designed to help you track how you spend your time online. It tracks website and app usage, emails, and documents. RescueTime also offers a number of reporting features, which can help you identify where you’re wasting time and make changes accordingly.
Make time for yourself 💆♀️💆♂️
One of the most important things you can do as a freelancer is make time for yourself. This means taking some time each day to relax and recharge, without feeling guilty about it. Whether you use this time to read, take a walk, or just sit in silence, it’s important to find something that helps you relax and rejuvenate.
Take breaks! Working from home can be overwhelming, so make sure to take breaks every few hours to stretch, get some fresh air, or just relax for a few minutes. It’s important to give yourself time to relax and recharge, especially when you’re working from home. Get up and move around every few hours, or take a 10-minute break to relax and rejuvenate.
Make sure that your routine is flexible enough to accommodate changes in your schedule. As a freelancer, you never know when you might have to take on an extra project or when an unexpected opportunity might come up.

Thank you for the reminder! Sometimes I forget to take breaks during the day. So I was looking for tools to remind me to take breaks. I'm using project management software with time tracking. I can break down my tasks, set estimated times, and track the time. I like to use Todoist and Quire.
