Personally, as a German, I want to keep my content and web-presence English. The reason is simple. In Germany, people speak German. In France, people speak French. On the Internet, people speak Netspeak English. So, if I want to reach the Internet, I better speak English. It's the lingua-franca, even though there are, of course, localized sites.
What I hope is that machine-translation improves over time, so that my content can be auto-translated from English to any other language. English->German->English already works great for simple texts (well, afaik it's the best researched translation process, because the two languages are quite similar and there has always been a certain motivation)
Well, I also have to add, that I surround myself with English to such a degree that it sometimes is hard(er) to speak German. It might be more natural for me than it is for others, who do not have such an exposure.
I'm a German myself, but I much prefer English, I'm not sure why. That's why everything I create, which doesn't need to be in German is in English.
I feel like it's a rather special situation for me. I get annoyed when pages get served in German based on my ip address.
I also hate it when pages are served in my native language. The main reason I install GreaseMonkey/TamperMonkey is to automatically switch to the English version of the websites I frequently use (usually documentation).
Oh, and working with an OS translated in my native language is one of the hardest things I can imagine...
