Decolonize The Internet

It is the unfortunate fact that almost all of the social media tech companies are colluding with state actors in order to censor free speech at mass scale.

They can no longer hide behind the logos and pretend that it's company policy!

The internet has become colonized where you have no freedom of what you write, post or say. However, we will discuss the solution instead of the problem since at this point, seriously, you can't be living on earth and you're unaware of the massive censorship on the internet.

The problem lies with every platform that has a registration somewhere (e.g. US registered) and a CEO.

This situation cannot continue. They are using AI to censor free speech, shadow ban legitimate opinions which poses a real threat to democracy and by extension accountability.

"Decolonize the internet" will be the new moto and status quo moving forward. We will no longer be slaves to BS "Community guidelines" and state actor backdoors.

Take your friends and relatives off any major platform such as Facebook, Meta, WhatsApp, etc...; all of those are centralized platforms that keep constantly cracking down on our freedom, spread actual misinformation and disinformation. Used by politicians to buy their way into power via bots, fake accounts, etc....

What's the solution? There are lots of decentralized social media platforms that are not controlled by a state or robotic CEOs.

But how can I teach my grandma how to host a web application server and maintain it?

It is our responsibility as Devs all over the world to improve the world via tech. Every Dev has an unwritten rule to use their skills only to make the world a better place.

Below are several social media platforms that are decentralized and can be extended to fight against the big giants who have been wreaking havoc on the world for the past 20 years:

  • Minds is a blockchain based social media platform.

I won't be writing a detailed review on each; because my post is just to remind you that we need to mobilize and move away from centralized tech platforms and get back our freedom from the autocratic governments that keep cracking down on our civil rights and freedom of speech.

To defeat the big platforms, we have to make people uncomfortable, we have to push them to use decentralized platforms. The solution lies in us not being part of them.

Every time someone asks you if you have Instagram, say no. Every time someone asks if you have Facebook, say no. Every time someone asks if you have LinkedIn, say No.

Then recommend to whoever wants to connect with you, to use only secure/decentralized means; when you pull one or two people in, they will also end up pulling in more people.

This is not a fight about which platform is better, this is a fight for our freedom and should be taken very seriously.

If you are unaware, the US government have a bill which will make all tech companies under US jurisdiction, no longer able to prevent your private information of being accessed by their agencies.

They want to know everything about each and every single one of us. Remember the day when you wrote intimate stuff to your girlfriend or husband? Yes, they can read that! Unless you are using truly End-To-End encryption communication, everything including sensitive data such as financial, banking, etc... all are exposed to a human who you don't know and don't wish to know.

They view us as sheep that can be controlled and manipulated however they like.

It is time to mobilize! #decolonizetheinternet

I would do this, but literally nobody ever asks that!

The idea is to challenge their status quo and make them unpopular by not being part of them.
