There are a few examples of jQuery resulting in "less code", but most of the examples of jQuery in the wild that I've seen involve dramatically more lines of code. That may be because the only people who use jQuery these days are people who don't really understand programming fundamentals, but it does seem to force certain verbose and superfluous patterns when doing anything remotely sophisticated.
