Nothing was broken.
Buttons worked.
Layouts were clean.
The UI even looked good.
And yet — users hesitated.
Not because they were confused,
but because the UI kept asking them questions.
- What should I click first?
- Is this important?
- Can I ignore this?
Every extra choice added friction.
That’s when I realized something uncomfortable:
Good UI doesn’t ask users to think.
It decides for them.
When an interface feels “off”,
it’s often because it’s making users do mental work
they never signed up for.
Once you notice this,
you’ll start seeing it everywhere.
In your apps.
In polished products.
In UIs you thought were well-designed.
