So nice to find and meet you Tim!

I’ve been looking for neuroatypical developers, but I haven’t found many. So I was really happy when I found you and this post! I'm not on the spectrum, but one of my siblings is! They are studying computer science and want to be a developer, so I'm interested in what it is like to be a developer with that background. [Fun fact, my sibling has dyslexia too! So you are very similar 😊]

similar to StackOverflow because, like StackOverflow, the people were arrogant and rude to newbies, at least in my experience

I so agree on this! And it’s really sad that this type of attitude exists, because there is a global shortage of developers, and the beginners aren’t growing faster by people being rude to them 😫

I received blunt, often harsh feedback on my code examples

This too, and I can only imagine how much energy this takes from people on the spectrum, having decode what the social interaction is, in addition to trying to figure out what is wrong with their code 🙄

Do you know if there are any software companies that would be hiring especially (or only) people who are on the autism spectrum? In the Nordics, there’s this company called Unicus, and they are hiring only people who either have an official diagnosis or have strong reasons to believe they are on the spectrum, but just haven’t gotten the diagnosis yet.
I think it’s wonderful that they are doing business this way, because it’s so difficult for neuroatypical person to navigate this social maze we call job hunting… But I wish you all the best in job searching 🤞🏻
