As a bootstrapped founder, my biggest fear isn't competition — it's waking up one day and realising the bank account is empty.
I used to track cash in a notebook. Then I'd forget to update it. Then I'd panic at month-end and have no idea if I had 3 months or 8.
So I built a simple Google Sheet that answers exactly one question:
When will I run out of money?
Here's how it works:
- Enter your current cash balance
- Enter your monthly revenue (MRR + one-off)
- Enter your monthly expenses (hosting, payroll, tools, marketing, misc)
- Read your runway in months and your burn-down date
The sheet has three tabs:
- Dashboard: instant runway + color alert
- 12-Month Projection: month-by-month cash flow
- Scenarios: best/base/worst case (MRR growth or decline)
I've pre-filled it with realistic data ($2k MRR, $8k burn) so you can see it work before typing your own numbers.
The formulas are all visible — no macros, no hidden cells. You can trust every calculation.
I put the full template on Gumroad for $29 (it saves me hours of manual tracking each month). But today I want to share a free version: a simplified single-tab calculator that gives you the same burn-down date.

If you find it useful, upgrade to the full 3-tab version with scenarios and pre-filled data. Either way — stop guessing. Know your date.
