Report
Today I did some some research to stay on the right side of the law. In general it's easy to forget about things like copywrite and trademark law when the project is a tinkle in your eye. Keeping those things in mind I learned that about the SRD, or systems reference document, a set of D&D rules provided under the open gaming license.
The SRD was created to give DMs the ability to write and publish content for D&D, but license also grants access to an interested developer (do not take legal advice from a blog post).
Once I knew where my data was coming from I could reshape my schema to include the relevant data for a character sheet. I also began writing a seeder to transfer the data into the database. For now the process is done by hand so it's time-consuming, in the future I should automate this or investigate whether anyone has already done this for me!
