Hacktoberfest @ Chingu
Hacktoberfest is an annual event that allows developers like you to earn a t-shirt or plant a tree by contributing to Open Source and creating four PR’s on GitHub during the month of October.
It’s a great way to refine your skills, work with other Developers, and get swag at the same time! You can get more information and signup to participate here.
The PR’s you create on public repos, including your Voyage projects, will be counted. In addition, a Chingu Moonshot team has been hard at work designing the Chingu Quiz app and is inviting you to contribute to its creation.
How can you grow your career this Hacktoberfest?
As a Chingu you can participate in through:
- Your Voyage project
- Chingu Resource List project
- Chingu Quiz project
- Any other Open Source project you wish to contribute to
Here’s how you can contribute to the Chingu Quiz project:
- Review the project’s Readme, especially the Code of Conduct and Contributing sections.
- Scan the project issues, select one you find interesting, and start developing!
- If you have questions, ask them in the #chinguquiz-contributors channel in Discord. Members of the core project team will be standing by to answer them. We’ll also take questions in the weekly Chingu Technical Roundtable’s on Wednesday’s & Saturday’s

I have one important query regarding React native, I tried to search on web but did not found anything promising. As I know React Native is for both ios & Android but it is only for frontend of App right. How does its backend work?
Anyone else thinking that Mondays are hyper unproductive? Then Tuesday is okayish. Wednesday is all focused till Friday and then weekends dead
Docker isn’t strictly needed, especially if it’s a solo project. I do like it though because once you know how it works, it makes dealing with dependencies so much easier. I think it is worth learning.

Remember What Got You Here
As you work on projects it’s easy to get frustrated and depressed when you hit obstacles.
As projects progress you’ll find yourself encountering design issues with your app, technology issues with libraries and services, and conflict within your team. These can be distracting and if not handled maturely and openly can lead to the “dark side of the Force”.
Namely, questioning why you wanted to become a Dev and draining the joy out of app development.
If you are having these feelings you aren’t alone! This is just another form of the Impostor Syndrome that hits all of us. And I do mean all of us!
Handling issues maturely starts with establishing and following a process, as a team , for logging and prioritizing issues so they receive the attention and resources they deserve at the proper point in time.
As a team is critical since it must be a shared responsibility to follow the process, but also to provide technical and moral support to one another. If negative feelings and emotions start to affect you take a moment to step back to when you saw your first program display “Hello World” on the screen.
Remember that? Don’t let go of it! That’s what got you here. The sheer joy from creating something from nothing.
When you hit issues look at them from the perspective not of “how can I make this go away???”. But instead as, “What happened and why?” and “What can I learn from this that can be used in the future?”
