What actually happened when I delegated
I hired someone I trusted. Spent a day training them. Then—and this was the hard part—I stayed out of their way.
The first feature took 30% longer than it would've if I did it. It had two things I'd have done differently. And it shipped.
By week two, they were shipping on par with me. By week three, faster. Because they owned it. And ownership is the thing no amount of solo effort can manufacture.

The pattern you described is exactly right. The first feature takes 30% longer. By week three they are faster than you. Most founders quit after that first week because they see the 30% slowdown and think "I knew it, I should just do it myself." They never get to week three.
The "hire for care, not perfection" line is something I wish I had heard earlier. The best people to delegate to are the ones who get annoyed when something is not right. You cannot teach someone to care about quality. You can teach them everything else.
