Do you prefer Light mode or Dark mode?

In 2020, it almost feels like if there is not Light mode / Dark mode toggle somewhere in your product, it doesn't count.

Jokes aside, I like to browse web in Light mode cause it feels way more natural and code on Dark mode cause of greater contrast and I find it easier for eyes for longer periods of time.

What are your theme preferences when it comes to browsing and coding?

Dark of course, I don't want to burn my eyes down with too many direct light, i'm in front of a screen like 12 hours a day...

I have a preference to dev on dark mode, but on last days i can see that my eyes gonna be sleepy so much easily when i use dark mode.

Well, i switch sometimes to get a better performance and evite problems on my work.

I have dark mode everywhere πŸ‘Œ

We recently added the option for dark mode on the devdojo.com site as well!

Dark mode πŸ’―. Bright white on the screen makes me squint and doesn't seem that it's good for πŸ‘€. NS why that is usually the default for all the things.

Dark mode, for sure. I love how colors like pink or green really pop out on dark backgrounds. 🎨

I prefer a user interface has both light and dark modes. If the ambient light is too bright, the dark mode will have difficult to see.

I rarely design UI for websites, 95% of the time is for embedded applications. I usually will add an ambient light sensor and create both light and dark themes for that application.

Almost always light mode. Contrast is much more important to me as far as eye strain is concerned, and light mode offers that. Dark mode is, in fact, far more exhausting for me to use.

Do you prefer to code in light mode too?

Aye. IntelliJ/PhpStorm/GoLand/DataGrip/PyCharm are all set to Light UI. A large part of it may be switching between the exclusively-Light design I'm working on (so switching between Light and Dark may be more frustrating), but even on dark-themed projects I prefer to code in Light.

Interesting, a fine example that theme preferences are always individual 🎨
I tried to code once on a white theme and switched back like after half an hour πŸ˜‰ I happy for you you found one that works for you, stick with that πŸš€πŸ‘

Dark for sure. Hours staring at a white screen kills my eyes. That said if I'm working outside (normally I don't but with this whole Covid thing, sometimes I do) it really needs to be a white background or I can't see anything.

It depends, if i'am working outside and the sun in shining, i prefer light mode. In the evening i am using darkmode. In addition i am using redshift which adjust the color temprature based on the long and lat of your position.

Based on mood, time, etc.
On day time it is easy to use mobile phone in light theme, but coding always dark regardless of time.

I don’t remember where I saw somebody saying β€œI don’t trust any developer using light mode....β€πŸ€£
