How I Got Started in IT: My Journey to Becoming an Apprentice Support Engineer 🚀

About me

Hey! I'm Marco, a 17-year-old tech enthusiast from Switzerland 🇨🇭, Zurich.
At only 15 Years old I dived into the IT-World and the job-world.
Currently I am a Support Engineer Apprentice and handle cusomter requests (Service- and Support-Requests) and going one step at a time with my goal to dive deeper into the tech world every day!

Let me show you how I got here and what's about to come in my future!

How It All Began

I've always been fascinated by the technology. I spent many hors playing video games and the first dive into the world of development was when I had to code a game on Scratch.
The excercise looked pretty easy: Create a Tamagotchi-like game.
Let me tell you - It wasn't easy at all for someone of a young age! There were many things that I needed to pay attention to: Things I have never heard of before!

After a break of all that Coding-related things, I wanted to learn on how to create Plugins for my favourite game back then - Minecraft.
I started by trying to learn Java for real Spigot plugins - I gave up pretty fast - It was a very complex language back then for me.
Then I discovered Minecraft Skript - A swiss created programming language that used simple english terms for it's coding.
This is an example of a Minecraft Skript:

command /Hello:
    permission: system.hello
    permission message: &cNo permission.
    trigger:
        message "Hello World!"

This is a simple skript - Once the command is inserted, the system checks if the permission "system.hello" is assigned to the player, if yes, the player receives the message "Hello World!", and if not, he receives a red message saying "No permission."

From there on, I realized that with programming you can let you creativity speak for itself! And since then, I knew, that my job is going to be in IT.

Our school supported us with finding a job and over around 1.5 years of time they supported us with creating a CV, needed information for the company and everything else it needs for a professional job.
After various applications sent, multiple job interviews and many days spent in various companies, I am happy to say, that I am currently working at UPGREAT in Switzerland.
In my daily business I have many different encounters with various technologies, people and customers.
We support many different companies in many industries with their IT Problems, Changes, Incidents and much more! Currently I am working in the Service Desk; Receive the customer request, do a first analysis and solve the problem or execute the change.
