48 hours until Awesome Directories launches on Product Hunt
Quick thread on what I learned building in public for 3 weeks π§΅
(Spoiler: Follower count is a lie)
I started with:
- 15k LinkedIn followers
- 200 avg impressions (lol)
- 150 X followers
- Zero engagement
I thought: "I have an audience. This will be easy."
I was wrong.
Week 1:
- Posted announcement: 3 likes
- Posted tech stack: 12 likes
- Asked a question: 47 likes
Lesson: People don't care about YOUR product. They care about THEIR problems.
Questions > announcements.
Week 2:
- Shared daily build updates
- Posted polls
- Responded to EVERY comment
- Impressions doubled
Lesson: Consistency beats perfection.
5 posts/week with engagement >> 1 perfect post/week
Week 3:
- Stopped saying "I built this"
- Started saying "This might help you"
Lesson: Make it about them, not you.
Nobody cares about your product.
Building in public. Real failures, real lessons.

They care about their problem.
3-week stats:
- LinkedIn impressions: 180 β 520 avg
- X impressions: 30 β 90 avg
- Early access signups: 2
- GitHub stars: 2
Not viral. But real.
What I'd do differently:
β Start asking questions Day 1
β Share struggles sooner (vulnerability > polish)
β Post 2x/day on X (once wasn't enough)
β Use more GIFs/screenshots (visual > text)
Friday 12:01am PST:
We launch on Product Hunt
I'll be there.
Responding to comments.
Sharing behind-the-scenes.
Probably panicking.
