I'm teaching myself software engineering from scratch — any advice?

Hi everyone, I'm Simone and I recently started
learning software engineering on my own.

My background: no technical experience, started
from zero a few weeks ago.

What I've done so far:

  • Finished an IBM Software Engineering intro course
  • Learning Python fundamentals (variables, loops, functions, dictionaries)
  • Built a bill split calculator and a contact book
  • Pushed everything to GitHub

My current roadmap:

  • Month 1-2: Python + Web basics (HTML, Flask, SQL)
  • Month 3-4: First real project + AI integration
  • Month 5-6: JavaScript, React, job hunting

My goal is to find a junior developer job
in 6 months.

Questions for the community:

  1. What do you wish you knew when you started?
  2. Any resources you'd recommend?
  3. What would you add or change in my roadmap?
