Hi, I’m Soyeon - Soy.
I’ve been working as a web developer since 2017, and right now I’m taking a short break to reflect on my experience and think about my next steps.
I started out with Python (Django) for a couple of years, but after the project I was working on was discontinued during the pandemic, I’ve mostly been maintaining PHP legacy systems ever since. This included adding live streaming features, integrating Google Docs API, and building small automation tools.
Why Laravel + React
Recently, I got a chance to try out Laravel, and I immediately thought:
"Wow, this feels a lot like Django but much faster and more fun to work with!"
So I’ve decided to focus on Laravel + React for my next portfolio projects.
My First Project: React Wedding Invitation App
My first project is a React wedding invitation app.
I’ve mostly worked with jQuery and Chart.js on legacy front-ends, but I’ve always wanted to create a page that’s more than just nice-looking—smooth and natural interactions that feel really good to use.
That’s why I started exploring React, and now I’m really excited to complete this project and see my skills grow.
Learning with AI
One thing I’m especially looking forward to is learning with AI as my study partner.
For React, I’ll use examples and existing code as references, but for Laravel, I plan to learn almost entirely through AI, asking it questions and figuring things out hands-on.
I’ll still peek at the official docs when needed, but the AI will be my main guide.
I even managed to prototype a small API in just a day this way, which really shows how powerful this approach can be.
What to Expect on This Blog
On this blog, I’ll be sharing not just what I build, but the whole learning journey—mistakes, discoveries, and new ideas as they come.
I hope these posts will not only capture my growth but also maybe inspire future colleagues or fellow developers along the way.
